MOUNTAIN PHOTOGRAPHY, EXPRESSION OF MY VISION
A passion with ancient origins
My great-grandfather Giacinto (1853-1937) was among the first to introduce photography to Cortina d'Ampezzo and the surrounding valleys. My grandfather Giuseppe (1898-1986) brought the heavy photographic equipment of the time to the mountains and, together with his brothers, founded the postcard industry, helping to spread images of the Dolomites throughout the world.
Even today, if you happen to see an old print hanging in a shelter in these mountains, there's a good chance it's a photo taken by my grandfather.
JOSEPH GHEDINA
I was born in 1972 and I live in Cortina d'Ampezzo, in the heart of the Dolomites.
In addition to these wonderful mountains, I have explored and photographed other extraordinary peaks around the world, from Nepal to Pakistan, from Patagonia to remote Svalbard.
Since 2006 I have been working as a professional photographer, telling the unique beauty of these mountains through photography.
I dedicate myself to different photographic genres, but mountain photography is undoubtedly my distinctive mark.
I define myself as a minimalist: in everything I do I always look for the essence. That's why I love black and white photography. Color often captures attention, but when it is eliminated, what remains acquires greater value.
